[Mumbai - Day 1] Airport to Awakening, ramblings of man

Tired | Travel | Work In-Company

Hey All-

Unfortunately, my email from the second flight didn’t send, so you get a two for one deal! That’s right this email contains both rants/raves about the flight from Frankfurt to Mumbai and my Mumbai experience as of 4/8 – 6:00pm!

Let’s start with the whole I need a ‘cell phone’ in India concept.. (since this is what is currently on my mind) I knew I would need a phone, but I didn’t realize how dependent you get with it and NO I don’t mean the kind where I like to just talk to people.. I’m talking about using a cell phone as a means of meeting people and more importantly informing your driver of your whereabouts so he can find you in the onslaught of the bajallion other brown people in india. Then one must ask the question.. how did we do it before? Since I didn’t have a cell phone today, I decided not to meet up with some friends (yes that could have been a stupid mistake.. but I just didn’t want to deal with the idea of going to a place.. and then have to frantically look for the person until we met.. I can say.. that even with having a cell phone.. meeting up with people isn’t ideal.. so now add in the fact that I’m in india, going to a place I don’t even know how to get to, and then expecting to meet a person.. I’m going to wait for my cell phone!)

Day 0 - In the Airplane from SFO -> Frankfurt, ramblings of a man..

Holla-

lets sync up with where I left out:

For those that don’t know, I am currently in schedule to be in Mumbai: 4/8-4/27 for work (If you want anything, let me know! I have already printed out a list of peoples’ bio-data)

I boarded the flight from sfo to frankfurt at 1.55pm.. Everything was fine and dandy.. until of course I sit down.. I sit next to a heavy-set individual that we will call MOTOOO.. which makes moving around very uncomfortable.. I’m pretty much playing fencing every couple of minutes with my elbow against his.... and of course..every now and then.. I slip and find myself crammed against the wall of the plane.. window seats!

My Weekly Top-10

Links - Yes | Tired | Website

Vishals Top-10
--------
1. Webaroo
Webaroo indexes the “highest quality” websites for content and creates topic based web packs for download. The content in those webpacks is stored offline on your computer and updated periodically. To test it, I fired up my old PC, installed the 5 MB application, and downloaded the World News and San Francisco web packs. Then I unplugged from the net and tried it out. The webpacks were great, allowing me to search or browse content. I would love this on a plane. The specific website index didn’t work out so well - all formatting and CSS was stripped from the page and the site looked horrible. Still, the content was there.

Sooo... I'm recooperating from my lil crazy weekend in Las Vegas...

[Friday]
I change my flight to a direct flight from Denver to Las Vegas... I get in..the d-factor and my cousin, who's visiting from London, was craving these garlic knots? yah..that's what I was thinking when she told that to me... we get to this pizza joint..which has these garlic knots..and sicilian stylzed pizza [supposedly like chicago deep dish..at least thats what the waitress says] we get the garlic knots and the sicillian pizza..both were quite disapointing..the so-called sicillian pizza looked like dominoes 'big-foot' pizza. We leave the pizza joint..and get to d's house. Hang out for a while..say the hello's and change it up..getting ready for the night. We decide to go to Body English, which is a club in Hard Rock Cafe. It isn't as big as Rain, but it has a good crowd. I work the door as usual..and get us all in promptly..cuz that's how I ROLL! Friday night ends with some eventful meetings..we meet this crazy random guy named Robert..who's this retired investor..and lets just say..i didn't believe half of the things he was saying....we then met the normal vegas crazy people..and ended the night at ihop..with some bomb crepes!

Munnnnday's

Tired | Work

First off...lets yell a big 'OUCH!'.. I'm sooo damn sore from yesterday B2B experience! It was a fun and amazing jog..but my legs..are completely sore..the ankles..to the shins..to the thiegh's....arrr...
I'm still waiting for my carry-on luggage to come in! I checked in bags..and of course..i came to SFO..late for checking in bags..the manager had to give me the lil story..about how if you check in late bags..they're not responsible..for it to get there on time..
the cabby came..this time he wasn't soo late..but i guess 5AM on monday morning..is still a bit too late to go the airport..if you're checking in bags..hopefully the new luggage comes in next week!

Drive...

Life | Tired

I find 'drive' to be quite mesmorizing. It seems that either you have it or you don't; this leads me to the question...Is Drive something you're born with? or is it something that you learn over time via your environment (peers, family, society)?
I look at my current project and I see people have an immense drive, which is good. What sucks is that I don't understand why they have such a drive for what they do. Recently, I have been looking at the bigger picture of corporate america and it seems that all the little activities that people do, within corporations, are nice and all (somebody's gotta do it), but they are so micro in terms of looking at the strategy and overall vision of the business. I'm realizing more and more that visionaries and strategists is something I want to focus on, only because it seems that you can actually make a difference; sure there's the quote..every little bit counts, which it does...but for me..once I understand the bigger picture..I wanna get involved with shaping the vision of the future.... not look at this small miniscule thing..that in the grand scheme of things..isn't really an issue.

Is an MBA still worth it?

Links - Yes | Tired | Work

So.. I currently have two options within the next 2 years. Either become entrepreneurial OR get an MBA from a top 10 school
BusinessWeek just release an article..stating that MBA applicants were at a low! MBA's are becoming commodities... ie: everyone is getting one. The article basically says that work experience will benefit you more (within the same industry) than an MBA. Man I guess the startup path is the only way!!!!
